While eating at Chinese restaurant, Zoya and Shan start talking about their backstories about how Shan comes from strict parents who don't like her way of living and expressing herself, while Zoya vents about her dad being hard on her for actions caused by Julien, and how she wants to help Julien through the process with Davis, but her dad doesn't let her. When Nick gets worried about where Zoya is, she lies by saying she was hanging out with Julien only for it to back fire when Julien stops by Nick's place with her grandmother. After Zoya gets caught, Nick grounds her by not letting her go to the school's annual winter recital, Shan shows up at her doorsteps and steals her away from the apartment, and secretly sneaks her in the winter recital by the upstairs balcony. As the recital ended, Zoya and Shan forget that they snuck out, and get caught by Nick again. Having enough of Zoya getting reprimanded by her dad, Shan steps in and gives Nick a piece of her mind about how Zoya is being treated unfairly, while the other rich kids do more horrible things, but suffer no consequences.
